sea kayaking, Hvar, Croatia
Sam Baldwin, Manager, Editorial Content

Where are you going in 2014?
Sea kayaking, Croatia

Why?
I love kayaking and camping, so hopping from island to island in a kayak, then camping at night with a group of friends is an ideal trip for me! And doing it somewhere nice and warm is a bonus too.

Best place you went to in 2013?
Klarälven River, Sweden

Why?
A group of nine of us learned how to build a huge log raft from tree trunks and rope (complete with cabin) and then spent four days floating down the river wild camping at night. It was a real life, Swedish ‘Huck Finn’ adventure! The perfect mix of physical activity, relaxation, and fun on the water.

Lance Gobaira, IT Services Engineer, Miami

Where are you going in 2014?
Breckenridge, Colorado, USA

Why?
With 300 inches of annual snowfall and 2357 acres of skiable trails, Breckenridge is my winter wonderland! A fresh coat of wax on my snowboard and powder under my feet make me squeal with delight 🙂

Best place you went to in 2013?
Edinburgh, Scotland

Why?
Wow, what a picturesque city. Although it was a ‘business’ trip, I really had a great time. There is a pub (or more) on every corner and no lack of side streets to explore. The castle tour gave me great photo opps, and the irony of ‘New Town’ being built in the 19th century… So much history in such a compact little gem of a city.

Lisa Imlach, PR

Where are you going in 2014?
Vancouver, Canada

Why?
This has been on the bucket list for a while. Zip lining across Grouse Mountain, kayaking in English Bay and cycling around the city; they’re all going to be ticked off. We’re planning on balancing out all this healthiness with a daily maple syrup overdose at breakfast too.

Best place you went to in 2013?
India

Why?
From visiting the Taj Mahal in Agra to watching the highly patriotic border closing ceremony with Pakistan, India really got under my skin. I’m itching to go back to refill on dosa, stock up on beautifully made textiles and see the colourful Holi festivities in March.

Best place you went to in 2013?

Florence
Maria Holt, Social Marketing Executive, Brazil

Where are you going in 2014?
A wee road trip from Milan to Florence, Italy

Why?
I could not find a last-minute deal to the Canary Islands for some sunshine in January, so instead I am going to cold Italy for a week. My husband loves driving in Europe, so the plan is to fly to Milan and drive to Florence via Verona. I’m looking forward to visiting Lake Maggiore and Garda in the winter.

Best place you went to in 2013?
Phi Phi Islands, Krabi, Thailand

Why?
I love beach holidays, and being from Rio de Janeiro, I can say that I have been to some pretty amazing beaches in Rio and throughout Brazil. However, sorry to my home country, but Phi Phi Islands is now my top one! The islands offer activities
for all tastes but if you are a snorkelling fan like me, you are in paradise! The coral reefs and sea life is just marvellous. I even managed to spot a little shark. Also, the popular method of transport around the islands called ‘long tail’ boats adds to the experience. So treat yourself, skip the boat tours and hire a long tail boat for a couple of hours to explore the famous Maya Bay (yes, it is crowded and touristy, but it is no surprise with a stunning location like that).

Where are you going in 2014?

Why?
I love culture, history, food, adventure. I love travelling to places which are uncharted and somewhat remote. So a group of friends and I are backpacking across the two countries to discover and experience the culture, the festivals, the food, the art and history and in between, do a little volunteering and get a little adventurous (white water rafting, rock climbing, etc).

Why?
This place is a mecca for powder skiers, and I’m hopeful we’ll luck out with the snow – the chances are usually pretty good in Jackson. I’ve been once before, and it’s amazing town, too. I just hope my knees (and my head) are still up to tackling the world-famous Corbet’s Couloir!

Best place you went to in 2013?

Aviemore, Scotland

Why?
Things to do in the summer include: visit the Highland Wildlife Park (huge enclosures, polar bears, tigers etc), ride the funicular railway to the top of the Cairngorm mountain range, try water sports on one of the many local lochs, go sledging with Huskies, try mountain biking, off-oad driving, gorge walking and, if you fancy it, even sheep herding. In short, Aviemore is for winners.

We plan to visit these three cities as they are so close to each other but in three countries: all look so quirky and pretty.

Best place you went to in 2013?
Reykjavik, Iceland

Why?
I loved Reykjavik for its hipster vibe, unique shops, colourful quirky houses, and interesting places to visit. The surrounding landscape is stunning and unusual: I highly recommend doing the Golden Circle tour, and visiting the Blue Lagoon: an other-wordly hot springs spa where the water is a milky turquoise and the mud can be used as an amazing face mask! The swim-up bar isn’t too bad either…

Two amazing islands that are completely different but capture the best of the Eastern Caribbean – the west island is volcanic so has rainforest and crystal clear streams and beautiful waterfalls. the eastern island is sandy with low lying mangrove marshes, white sand beaches and amazing snorkling. Zurich
Elizabeth Ellis, Office Administrator

Where are you going in 2014?
Zurich, Switzerland

Why?
My partner will be competing at the ESKA (European Shotokan Karate-Do Association) Championships in November. I will be there cheering him on with the rest of the Karate ‘WAGs’. When the competition finishes on the Sunday, we will spend a couple of days further to explore the city. I have never been to that part of Europe nor have done much research so if anybody has any recommendations I’d love to hear them.

Best place you went to in 2013?
The Wickerman Festival, Scotland

Why?
At the end of July, The Wickerman Festival springs up in the hills of the Scottish Borders. This year was particularily fantastic as it was the first time it had sold out and to top it all off the weather was glorious. A great family festival, you’ll see me there every year!

David Hamill, Senior User Experience Designer

Where are you going in 2014?
Northern Ireland

Why?
The Giro d’Italia (cycling tour of Italy) is starting in Belfast in May 2014 and passing through the Antrim Coast which is a lovely part of the world and very easy to get to. While the Tour de France is starting in Yorkshire in July 2014 it’s practically impossible to get any accommodation there. The Giro d’Italia on the other hand has many of the same riders with less of the cheese (or should I say fromage?) you get from the very commercial Tour de France.

Best place you went to in 2013?
Aube, France

Why?
My mum’s family live there. It’s perhaps the least populated part of France and life is lived at a very slow pace. The champagne caves here are small and less commercialised than the big ones you find in Reims and Epernay. There are several massive lakes with beaches for those who don’t like sea water (me). The local delicacy Andouillette de Troyes is an acquired taste, but I like it, although few Brits I know of will even taste is once they’ve smelled it. If you have kids you can take them to Nigloland which is France’s second biggest theme park. It’s not Disneyland and this can be both a good and a bad thing I guess.

Sam Heyman, Test Engineer, B2B

Where are you going in 2014?
Islay, Scotland

Why?
Islay is a stunning island with some amazing whisky distilleries, and it’s only a few hours’ drive away! We are very lucky here in Scotland to have some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world so there’s no real need to travel very far!

Best place you went to in 2013?
St Martin, France

Why?
St Martin is the ski resort next to Meribel and is part of the Trois Vallées domaine. It is a little further out and not directly on the pistes so is therefore cheaper than Meribel and Courchevel, whilst sharing the same ski domaine. Nothing beats a week’s skiing holiday in the winter, not even a beach with turquoise water!

Porto Conte, Sardinia
Eliana MacInnes Gómez, Senior Marketing Manager, Europe

Where are you going in 2014?

Best place you went to in 2013?
Puerto Rico

Ania Rytel, Actionable Issues Administrator

Where are you going in 2014?

Why?

I’m really excited about it!

Best place you went to in 2013?
Prague

Why?
I spent a couple of weeks exploring this amazing and very surprising country in August. I would go back every year… if it weren’t so far 😉 Two weeks were not enough.

Best place you went to in 2013?
Kusatsu hotspring, Japan

Why?
About a two hour drive away from Tokyo, it’s one of the top three best hotspring spots in Japan that cannot be missed when you visit Tokyo. It is best to spend one or two nights to experience the sulphuric spring water, it helps to cure and energise your tired body and spirit! it is less touristy and best to go in in late October to November to see the autumn leaves. Or go during spring around the end March to April to enjoy the sakura season, fresh mountain air and superb scenery.

Bangkok cityscape
Gerard James, Part-Time Market Research, Singapore

Where are you going in 2014?
Bangkok, Thailand

Why?
It’s a lovely and wonderful city! One of my favourite shopping malls is Terminal 21. One of the best bar stretches, Thonglor. Many awesome bars: HOBS, Brew, Niche and Badmotel. Also check out Sirocco, the bar featuring the Golden Dome, made famous in The Hangover 2.

Best place you went to in 2013?
Bangkok, Thailand

Why?
I studied there for five months and I still can’t get enough of this lovely city. I barely shop in Singapore but Bangkok made a shopper out of me. Believe it or not, I bought more stuff in five months than the five years before (two years of that was spent in the military, hence no reason to buy clothes since I wore uniform everyday). There is absolutely spectacular food at very good value as well. The city has fantastic culture and everyone is so friendly and welcoming!

Best place you went to in 2013?
Dalat, Vietnam

Why?
The only place in Vietnam that experiences four seasons in one day. It was a holiday home to the French colonists and today, there is still a very strong French feel in Dalat. It is home to many tribes and most of them speak fluent French. I call it ‘the Paris of Vietnam’.

Tika Larasati, Marketing Manager, Indonesia

Where are you going in 2014?
Cape Town, South Africa

Why?
It’s a city in Africa that I have always dreamed of visiting. And after Mandela’s death, I’ve made it top of my list of places to go. I want to go there to learn about and get a feel of the culture and the local people. I’m hoping 15 days will be enough to explore and discover. And of course, spoil myself by making as many beautiful memories as possible with my camera.

Best place you went to in 2013?
Passau, Germany

Why?
The City of Three Rivers. I took my time to visit the oh-so-beautiful cathedrals including St. Stephen’s Cathedral, mostly known for its magnificent interior and breathtaking frescoes as well as having the largest cathedral organ in the world. The scenery along the River Danube is just mind-blowing; it’s so picturesque I spent a whole day capturing beautiful images through my lenses. It’s heaven on earth for landscape photography enthusiasts.

Ruth Chandler, Head of Learning & Culture

Where are you going in 2014?
Monasterolo del Castello, Italy

Why?
I have never been to Italy and decided 2014 is the year to change that! We took our one-year-old boy on a 35ft yacht for a week from Dubrovnik. It was absolutely fantastic and contrary to (everyone else’s) expectations, it was a really safe environment for a one-year-old and it was easier to keep him out of trouble than it is at home.

Where are you going in 2014?
Curaçao

Why?
