Time Out’s cutting edge insider knowledge has always been at the heart of their city magazines, which were first published in London over 40 years ago.
Now, Time Out comes to iPhone with eight guides available at present including Manchester and Zagreb. Each app is packed with the same quality content and useful insider tips as the magazine.
Each section in the app has an ‘Editor’s picks’ area which is a good way of quickly finding recommended venues. Each attraction can also be added to your bookmarks easily for you to find later.
We particularly liked the ‘Inspire me’ section which selects attractions for you based on your location and the type of activity you’re looking for. If you’re hungry in Manhattan, for example, be prepared to be inundated with an array of mouth-watering suggestions.
All content in the guides is available offline, which means no nasty roaming charges. More and more apps are now being built this way, as smartphone users savvy up (often after seeing their last holiday phone bill!) to the reality that using the full capabilities of their mobile phone abroad can cost a lot.
The built-in content of the app (and the fact that GPS on your iPhone is free) means you can use the ‘What’s nearby’ section without worrying that you’re going to clock up a huge phone bill. The ‘locate me’ function is also handy should you lose your bearings, as is the ‘Search keyword’ box on the app homepage.
The Time Out iPhone app is the ultimate companion for travellers who want to keep up to date with the latest events and happenings in their chosen city – and best of all; the apps are currently available free on iTunes!
