Egypt could become an increasingly popular winter holiday destination after Thomas Cook Airlines announced its intention to launch flights to Sharm el Sheikh from Belfast.
The airline will introduce flights to the purpose-built resort between December this year and April 2010.
Thomas Cook’s chief executive of mainstream travel Pete Constanti said the carrier is "very pleased" to announce flights to Sharm el Sheikh from the Northern Ireland capital.
"It is important to us to be able to give customers flexibility regarding holiday destinations, so they can have the holiday they desire," he explained.
One of the Egyptian destination’s highlights is the Ras Mohammad Marine Park, which is often referred to as one of the world’s primary diving destinations.
People looking to book cheap flights for their winter holiday may also be interested in the Red Sea Riviera’s offerings of bars, restaurants, clubs, casinos and golf courses.
Belfast International Airport recently said that passengers travelling from the city on Continental Airlines’ flights to New York were taking advantage of onward connections to a number of north American destinations.
