The Art of Australian Hospitality – why you should choose Qantas for your next long-haul flight

In partnership with

You don’t need to go all the way to the Land Down Under to experience Aussie hospitality – as soon as you step foot on a Qantas flight you’ll be treated to plenty of Antipodean charm. With a state-of-the-art aircraft, delicious in-flight meals and fantastic rewards for frequent flyers, there are plenty of reasons to fly Qantas. Here are a few reasons why we reckon they’re one of the best options out there.

Catch up with new films and full TV boxsets while you fly

The Qantas in-flight entertainment system is constantly being updated with the latest blockbuster films, award-winning sitcoms and groundbreaking documentaries. The interactive seat-back screen makes it easy to choose from over a thousand hours of entertainment. There’s also a hand-picked selection of new and classic Disney films – ideal for little ones (and older travellers – c’mon, who can resist a bit of Pixar?)

Eat and drink like a real foodie – even in economy

You definitely won’t go hungry on a Qantas flight, whichever class you book. Economy travellers are served a selection of multicultural dishes accompanied by delicious Australian wines – there’s beer, spirits and soft drinks too of course. If you treat yourself to a cheeky Premium Economy upgrade you’ll be welcomed on board with a glass of sparkling wine. When meal time arrives, each dish is served on proper tableware made by Sydney-based designer David Caon.

In business class, the experience is all about choice. Whether you fancy something light or a full-on three-course meal, you can choose the time it’s served – or you can help yourself to snacks from the bar. If you fancy a tipple to wash it down, the Sommeliers in the Sky are specially trained to help you choose the perfect Australian or New Zealand wine.

First class passengers get to tuck into a five star meal designed by Neil Perry, a celebrity Australian chef who specialises in Asian-inspired food. Seasonal produce from Artisan producers is the focus, and you can choose from a hand-picked meal or go for the full-on tasting menu experience. To add the decadence, it all kicks off with a glass of proper French champagne.

You can fly on some of the most advanced aircraft in the sky

The Qantas Dreamliner (a Boeing 787-9) only has 236 seats, so there’s more room to stretch out. Every seat is designed with the utmost comfort in mind, so you’ll even feel like a rockstar when you fly in Economy. The Dreamliner is also fitted with cutting-edge technology that reduces the effect of turbulence for a much smoother flight. Oh, and the windows are 65% bigger than most plane windows – so you get to see more of the world as you zip above it.

You can fly direct to long-haul destinations

Perth, Australia

When you fly on the Qantas Dreamliner, your holiday starts as soon as you’re on the plane. The lighter frame, GEnx engines and innovative onboard systems combine to make the aircraft super efficient. It uses 20 per cent less fuel than other aeroplanes of its size – so it can fly direct from London to Australia without any stopovers. This means no waking up in the middle of a snooze to drag your bag out of the overhead cabin, no interrupting your in-flight movie at the crucial moment and no mad dashes through airports.

Qantas rewards its loyal passengers

If you’re a Qantas Frequent Flyer you collect points every time you book a Qantas or oneworld flight, stay in a partner hotel, book car hire with a partner agency or take an organised tour with a partner company. These points can be used to pay for flights and upgrades. The more you fly, the higher your frequent flyer status – and the more chances you have to get rewards like lounge access and priority check-in.

If you want lots of benefits but don’t have time to build up your frequent flyer status, you can pay to join the Qantas Club. For a one-off membership fee you can enjoy access to Qantas Business Lounges, which have complimentary drinks, food and entertainment. Joining the club also lets you earn new points – three for every Australian dollar (about 55p in July 2019).
