A report published by Hermes Management Consulting on behalf of the firm recommends that agencies can "tap into new strategies, such as optimising technology, to harness their business model for sustainable growth."
David Brett, president of Amadeus Asia Pacific, said: "The report shows that travel agencies in Malaysia can thrive if they harness new industry developments, particularly where technology is concerned. Years ago, many feared that the internet would mean the death of travel agencies. Clearly that isn’t the case, as it is the agencies using technology to their advantage that are emerging as the most successful businesses."
Hernan Goyanes of Hermes Management Consulting added that although Malaysia’s travel industry had seen a major boost in recent years, this growth had not necessarily seen increased profits. Mr Brett said that across Europe too, the firm was seeing "an increasing number of travel agencies now looking to technology to remain competitive in the growing travel market and more integration between travel agencies and airlines to ensure a seamless travel experience."
