Star Alliance has launched a new service which allows passengers to ensure they have the correct travel documents for their journey.
Called ‘Auto Doc Check’, the service is only available to travellers flying on Star Alliance member airlines.
It will be in place at check-in counters, and will provide airline personnel and passengers with a ‘yes’, ‘no’ or ‘conditional’ response as to whether the travel documents meet the necessary requirements.
So far, Singapore Airlines has implemented the system and other Star Alliance member airlines are expected to launch it over the next few months.
Vice president of products and services for Star Alliance, Lee Hock Lye, said: "Up to now it has often been a challenge for check-in personnel and passengers to keep current about what documents are needed for travelling abroad.
"With this state-of-the-art technology now evaluating the passenger’s travel documents and deciding if the passenger is allowed to travel, Auto Doc Check is taking the guesswork out this decision."
Last month, Star Alliance opened a new lounge in Terminal 1 of London Heathrow Airport.
Situated in the international departures area, it is open to first and business-class passengers, as well as invited guests and Star Alliance Gold Card holders flying from Terminal 1 with any member airline.
