Southampton Airport has been nominated in the Business Travel Awards’ Best Regional UK Airport Award category.
In what is the largest reward programmes of its kind, online voting will remain open until September 30th, with the winner being the airport to receive the greatest number of votes.
Lorraine Barnes Burton, the British Travel Awards’ chief executive, said the awards are generally considered as the travel industry’s equivalent of the Oscars.
"It’s the largest awards programme in the UK created to reward travel companies and the winning accolade is the benchmark for excellence when it comes to finding out who really is the best in the business of travel for the UK consumer," she commented.
Southampton Airport’s director of marketing and communications Jan Halliday said the nomination is particularly apt as the airport is celebrating its centenary this year.
The British Travel Awards will take place in London on November 4th.
Last month, regional airline Flybe welcomed its ten millionth passenger to pass through the airport, with Janet Cauchi having travelled on the carrier’s route to Southampton from Edinburgh.
