Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape Province

Stadium: Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium

Set on the shores of Algoa Bay, Port Elizabeth is another plum draw for teams in the knockout stages. The “friendly city” as it is known has a fantastic climate and water sports enthusiasts can indulge in their hobbies all year round from golden beaches.

The city gets more sunshine than any other coastal town in the country, and this no doubt contributes to the quality of life which is enjoyed by residents, and the number of flights to Port Elizabeth all year round.

The city itself is an attractive mixture of historic buildings and well-tended green parks and tourists might like to follow the 5km Donkin Heritage trail which takes in numerous locations associated with the 1820 settlers in the Old Hill area of Port Elizabeth.

If nature is more your thing, there are a number of game parks in the area like the Shamwari Game reserve where you can spot the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo) and the Addo Elephant Park- though it remains unclear what you might see there.
