Anyone lucky enough to get a flight to Cape Town during the World Cup is in for a treat. The iconic Table Mountain is a must for visitors; either take the cable-car, or if you’re feeling fit, hike to the top for spectacular views of the city (if the cloud know as the “tablecloth” isn’t around!).

After that, head back to town to explore the Victoria and Albert Waterfront where a previously rundown harbour has been transformed into a booming centre for shops and restaurants. Also found here is a world class aquarium where, if you’re brave that day, you can dive with sharks and turtles.

A trip to Robben Island, 12 kilometres offshore, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years, is a moving experience, and former political prisoners now explain to tourists about the struggle against apartheid.

A short drive from Cape Town, explore the Constantia Wine Route, visit Fairy Glen to see big game or visit Cape Point in the enormous Table Mountain National Park and you will be standing on the most southerly point of the African continent.
