Leading flight search engine Skyscanner is continuing its international development with the launch of new local domain names in eight countries.
The new Skyscanner domains to have been released are: Russia (Skyscanner.ru), Japan (Skyscanner.jp), The Netherlands (Skyscanner.nl), Czech Republic (Skyscanner.cz), Greece (gr.Skyscanner.com), Turkey (tr.Skyscanner.com), Sweden (Skyscanner.se) and Romania (ro.Skyscanner.com).
The launch of these new domains follows the release in 2008 of new domains for France (Skyscanner.fr), Spain (Skyscanner.es), Germany (Skyscanner.de), Poland (Skyscanner.pl) Italy (Skyscanner.it) and Denmark (dk.Skyscanner.com).
Skyscanner is already available in 20 different languages and 59 different currencies, but the addition of the new local top-level domains and sub-domains means the site now has even greater visibility in these territories.
Barry Smith, co-founder and Director of Business Development at Skyscanner, explains:
“International market development is key to the next stage of Skyscanner’s growth. We anticipate overall growth of 100% this year and expect that the UK will account for only 30% of our traffic by this time next year.
“60% of our traffic already comes from users outside of the UK and we are seeing huge growth in the markets where we have launched new local domain names. In the last year, Germany has grown by 105%, Denmark by 120% and Poland by 60%, to name a few."
"To date our international growth has been largely due to organic SEO but we are now planning the roll out of our affiliates programme across Europe and are launching SEM campaigns in all key territories.”
