Europe continues to enjoy its best season in many years. Snow just won’t stop falling and yet more snow is forecast for Austria and Switzerland this week. Many areas are expecting in excess of half a metre of fresh snow.
Western Canada and America are currently experiencing extremely cold weather, but the snow is in great condition. In California, last week’s fresh fall is still providing fantastic powder skiing. The pistes are all in excellent condition as well and it remains fairly cold.
Austria – Lots of snow fell in places over the weekend. Many places received between 5cm and 10cm of snow on Saturday and Sunday and there are amazing powder conditions across the whole resort of Obergurgl. A drop in temperature ensures the snow conditions are near perfect but it isn’t too cold to feel uncomfortable. Find cheap flights to Salzburg and Innsbruck
USA – It was a fairly dry weekend throughout the whole of the US. Some snow fell in Colorado though, with most resorts receiving between 10cm and 20cm of powder and Aspen had 22cm of fresh snow on Saturday.
Following the colossal snowfalls in California last week, cold weather has kept all that fresh snow in very good condition. Squaw Valley (140/432cm) has the deepest base of the Californian resorts at nearly four and a half metres, virtually double what it was at the beginning of March. Find cheap flights to the USA.
Canada – The remaining few months of the season in Canada could be shaping up to be the best. More fresh snow fell at many resorts over the weekend as the temperatures plummeted as low as -30ºC.
Silver Star received 27cm of fresh snow on Saturday giving fantastic skiing conditions. With the temperature being so low the snow was incredibly light. More extremely cold weather is expected and if anything it will be even colder. A maximum temperature of -26ºC on Tuesday and -40ºC on Tuesday night is expected.
Another resort which received fresh snow this weekend was Revelstoke (208cm). 23cm fell on Saturday providing great snow conditions. All four of Revelstoke’s lifts are running on Monday and it is very quiet at the moment, the perfect time to enjoy the snow! Like Silver Star though, it is very cold at Revelstoke so wrap up warm. Best of the rest
Italy – Last week’s snowfalls provide fantastic snow conditions in most areas this week. Some resorts have seen further snowfall on Monday but most places either have sunny or cloudy weather.
The snowfall last week at Bormio was enough to provide thigh deep powder in the trees. Cold weather also helped ensure that the snow was very light and dry, just the kind we all love, and there was another dusting of fresh snow on Sunday night. Find cheap flights to Milan.
France – The start of the weekend was a fairly dry one for most of the French resorts, but many places received respectable amounts of fresh snow on Sunday afternoon. The snow continued to fall through Sunday night and into Monday morning in places but high winds have caused lift closures in some resorts. Find cheap flights to Geneva, Chambery, Lyon, Grenoble.
