San Francisco International Airport’s (SFO) International Terminal is the top facility of its kind in the US, Dwell has said.
According to the magazine, the terminal has a quiet ambience and "instils confidence and calm in the traveller".
Dwell also highlights the airport’s effective design, which it says is undervalued and "easy to take for granted" when passengers’ travel plans run smoothly.
San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom said that "great efforts" had been made to ensure that the airport is the "premier international gateway" to the west coast of the US.
"SFO strives for excellence at all levels, and has been recognised over and over again for setting the highest standards," he commented.
A number of cheap flights carriers will launch their summer schedules from San Francisco this week, with the airport currently being served by 25 international airlines.
Emirates recently launched flights to Dubai from SFO, which are operated using a Boeing 777-200R aircraft.
The airline, which is planning a 14 percent expansion over the course of this year, is due to add 18 new passenger aircraft to its fleet.
