Officials at Cork Airport have welcomed the launch of cheap flights to seven seasonal destinations this summer.
Low-cost airline Ryanair has introduced flights to Alicante, Bordeaux, Carcassonne and Faro from the southern Irish airport, all of which will remain operational until September.
Holidaymakers will also be able to travel on cheap flights to La Rochelle, Lanzarote, Malaga and Reus from Cork.
Kevin Cullinane, Cork Airport’s aviation marketing manager, said he was confident of the routes being a success thanks to the airport’s large catchment area.
"These seven new Ryanair routes will be complimentary services to our existing summer schedule and will stimulate the Munster market," he commented.
"Over the next three months these Ryanair services will generate 40,000 additional passengers through Cork Airport with two aircraft based in Cork."
Earlier this spring, a franchise agreement between Aer Lingus and Aer Arann saw the launch of cheap flights to Glasgow from the southern Irish airport.
