Demand for flights from Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield remains strong despite one airline’s decision to stop services at the beginning of next year.
Low-cost airline easyJet will terminate its services from the South Yorkshire airport on January 4th, although another airline is expected to take its place.
Nick Smillie, Peel Airports’ aviation sales director, said he is "naturally very disappointed" by easyJet’s decision, although he is understanding of the reasons behind it.
"Operational restrictions, largely due to the fact that the aircraft is not Doncaster based, have affected the viability of the operation," he explained.
"For example, the timings of certain key flights have affected their attractiveness to the region’s business community – a key source of passengers and revenues."
Mr Smillie went on to say that he is "confident" that other airlines will be attracted to Robin Hood Airport "in the near future".
During the recent August bank holiday weekend, the airport accommodated more than 16,000 passengers.
