Skiers are finding it costly to take their equipment on flights within Europe, it has been suggested.
Betony Garner, a spokesperson for the Ski Club of Great Britain, praised Ryanair’s decision to offer passengers the chance to take skis on flights for free because it is otherwise "really expensive."
"It’s helpful for skiers who are trying to go skiing on a budget and it is a reaction to the fact that other airlines are charging for baggage," she commented.
Passengers booking Ryanair flights to ski destinations can take their skis for free if they book before midnight today (October 1st).
Ms Garner went on to suggest that more people could be booking flights to Italy this winter thanks to the value for money at the country’s ski destinations.
Elsewhere, she said, people are still being attracted to higher altitude resorts such as Tignes in France and Arlberg in Austria.
Cheap flights carrier Ryanair’s ski programme offers 50 weekly flights to Cuneo, Grenoble, Lourdes and other destinations.
