Passengers favour regional airports, says Jet2

Low-cost carrier Jet2 has suggested that passengers in the UK are seeking out cheap flights from regional airports as a less-expensive alternative to flying from London.

Figures from have revealed an increase in the number of passengers flying from regional airports instead of Gatwick and Heathrow.

The firm notes year-on-year growth at its six regional bases in the UK, with bookings up for July and August. Over the next two months, 67 per cent of all passengers plan to take cheap flights from Jet2’s regional airports.

Mandy Round, general manager at, said: "The London airports maybe experiencing a backlash from travellers, but this is simply not the case in the regions.

"Regional airports are not just easier to get to, they have better and cheaper parking and far fewer queues meaning the time spent checking in and navigating security is much more of a breeze."

Meanwhile, the airline has announced two new summer flights from Belfast. Jet2 will offer cheap flights to Menorca and Jersey from its Irish base.
