Oslo – Norway’s city of fjords
Why? Oslo is a great winter weekend destination; within 20 minutes of the city centre you can go ice skating, tobogganing as well as skiing and snowboarding at Tryvann, a suburban ski area offering 14 slopes, 6 lifts and an excellent terrain park. After a day’s activities, get cosy in one of the city’s chic bars or cafes, many of which turn into nightclubs at around 10pm.
Stay: Oslo is well endowed with accommodation, ranging from hostels to luxury hotels and a traditional Norwegian breakfast buffet, which includes cereals, cold meats, fruit, jam and bread, is always included in the room rate.
Eat: Norway is known for its fish dishes so be sure to sample the smoked salmon. Another must is a moose burger, and like most capitals, a spectrum of international platters awaits, including Japanese, Indian, Thai and Moroccan.
Fly to Oslo from: Heathrow, London Stansted, Glasgow Prestwick, Birmingham, Liverpool, Edinburgh and London City. Return flights start from 50p!
