Get back to naturism this New Year with five top spots for seeing in 2013, minimal luggage required...
Although there are currently 1.2 million naturists in the UK, you don’t have to make it a lifestyle choice to get a wee bit adventurous on your New Year break this year. There are multiple resorts across the world throwing ‘clothing-optional’ parties. Why not have a go and make it your New Year’s resolution to be less inhibited? Just think twice before posting your holiday snaps on Facebook.
1. Vera Playa, Spain
Situated on the Costa Almeria of Spain, Vera Playa boasts over 2km of sandy beaches to stretch out on and let the worries of the past year melt away (although at time of year bearing all is only for the brave). It’s not a naturist centre, but a zoned area. This means it’s not owned by any particular organization, and is open to the public. There are numerous sunbeds, bars, restaurants, and private accommodation to lounge about in. For New Year’s Eve, popular beach bars like the Blue Parrot and Frankie’s offer buffets and dancing.
2. Haulover Beach, USA
Located right outside Miami, Haulover Beach is internationally famous for its New Year’s Eve parties and other amenities throughout the year. The designated nude area stretches for over 800 yards, and is overseen by its own police and lifeguards. Hundreds of nude party people descend on the beach each New Year, to take part in the drum circles, dancing, and seafood dinner. Running into the ocean for a midnight skinny dip is a traditional way to welcome the New Year at Haulover.
3. Valalta, Croatia
If you wish to get away from it all on your holiday, you could choose to visit the Valalta Naturist Camp in Croatia. Located along the northern coast in Istria, it was founded in the 1960s, making it a longstanding favourite among old school Euro nudists. If it isn’t snowing, there are over two miles of beaches to enjoy clotheslessly. If you want to party the night away, there are two bars, one located by the pool and one right next to the sea.
4. Euronat, France
The south of France is notoriously nude-friendly, with plenty of beaches welcoming those who want an all-over tan. One of these is Euronat, a beach resort that caters to naturists with its family-friendly attitude. The naturist camp offers a range of accommodation options, including caravan sites, tent pitches, tents, and wooden chalets, plus bars, restaurants and a supermarket. Although the main camp closes for the majority of the winter, it re-opens for parties on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
5. Terra Cotta Inn, Palm Springs, USA
The temperatures in Palm Springs can reach searing levels in the summer. However, the climate is pleasant in the winter, making this an ideal destination for Nude Year. The Terra Cotta Inn is very popular with first-time naturists. They have barbecue and spa facilities as well as an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi, all of which come into play in their notorious clothing-optional New Year’s Eve celebration. You don’t have to be a hotel guest to attend, or take all of your clothes off if you don’t want to in this laid-back California scene. Festivities include a five-course dinner, dancing, and champagne.
