Passengers flying from Newcastle have experienced the best levels of punctuality at any UK airport, figures released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) have revealed.
A total of 85 percent of all charter flights left on time during the first quarter of this year, which compared to a national average of 68 percent.
It was also revealed that 82 percent of scheduled flights departed on time, which was also an improvement on the UK average.
Chief executive of Newcastle International Airport Dave Laws said that the figures were "excellent news" for the airport and its passengers.
"It is testament to the considerable efforts and team-working of colleagues across the business that we are continuing to outperform our competitors in respect of the punctuality of our flights," he said.
"And when delays unfortunately do occur, the CAA’s results also show that we have succeeded in keeping disruption to an absolute minimum."
Emirates recently welcomed the quarter of a millionth passenger on its flight to Dubai from the north-east airport.
