New budget routes anticipate 'XL' demand

Budget airline easyJet will offer new flights to European destinations following the collapse of XL Airways earlier this month.

easyJet cheap flights to Gran Canaria, Turkey and Lanzarote will be launched this October.

The carrier claims that these new services will help to fill the gap that has been left on routes to these destinations following the collapse of the XL Group.

Flights will launch from Gatwick to Arrecife in Lanzarote from October 2nd, Las Palmas in Gran Canaria and Dalaman in Turkey from October 6th.

The airline also recently announced that it would be capable of adding additional cheap flights on Italian routes in the case of a collapse of the struggling Alitalia.

A spokesperson told Reuters that easyJet could commit an estimated ten aircraft on routes from Milan to Naples and Palermo.

He explained that "easyJet is prepared, at very short notice, to move into routes the Italian government cares about most".
