Eight out of ten Brits think that their overseas holiday will be their most important luxury of 2009, according to the results of a new survey.
Research by Club Med showed that a further 50 percent of people were planning to take one to two holidays over the course of this year, which suggests that a number of people are making sure they have a holiday to look forward to.
Head of Club Med UK Laurent DeChorivit predicted that 2009 will see more people looking for value-for-money deals and hassle-free holidays.
"However, this year will bring added pressures and with them a greater demand for relaxation and time away," he said.
Almost a third of survey respondents (31 percent) will book flights to short-haul destinations, while 23 percent were planning a long-haul break.
European beach holidays were among the most popular holiday choices, as were winter sun deals.
Website carrentals.co.uk has advised families to compare the prices of all elements of their forthcoming holiday before they book.
