Mobile boarding passes introduced in UK

The UK is pioneering the first use of the Lufthansa's new mobile boarding pass system outside of Germany

The UK is pioneering the first use of the Lufthansa’s new mobile boarding pass system outside of Germany.

Passengers on Lufthansa flights from London Heathrow have had access to the new mobile boarding pass technology since October 13th.

Mobile boarding passes will be accepted on all direct, non-stop routes to Germany and most onward destinations throughout Europe.

The passes will be sent to passengers with an internet-enabled mobile phone, where all relevant data is stored on digital 2D barcode.

Marianne Sammann, Lufthansa general manager UK & Ireland, explained that the new service should make journeys easier.

She said: "Selecting London Heathrow as one of the key launch markets outside Germany for the mobile boarding pass clearly demonstrates just how much we value our UK customers.

"I am sure this new service will prove to be invaluable, particularly to business travellers, making their journeys simpler, more flexible and more convenient."

The pass was introduced on Lufthansa flights from Germany last month.
