Le Meridien Bangkok is situated in the Thai capital’s Silom commercial district just a few metres from the popular Patpong night market.

Standing 24-storeys high, the hotel is designed to reflect Bangkok’s emerging reputation as a contemporary cultural hub.

President of Starwood Hotels & Resorts in the Asia Pacific region Miguel Ko said he was "thrilled" that the new hotel had opened.

"Bangkok is the cosmopolitan capital of Thailand and is an exciting, sophisticated and energetic destination for leisure, business and meetings," he commented.

The new hotel, which has 282 guestrooms, features floor-to-ceiling windows offering guests suberb views of the city.

In other news, Bangkok-based PB Air will launch new flights to Mae Sot on June 5th, the Bangkok Post reports.

The airline currently operated ten daily flights on six secondary domestic routes form the Thai capital.
