The £660,000 Get More Britain For Your Buck initiative aims to ensure that Americans continue travelling to Britain over the course of 2009.
Despite US tourists spending £2.2 billion per year on almost three million trips to Britain, the number of visitors has decreased by 11.5 percent during the past five years because of the falling dollar and the struggling economy.
The campaign will centre around the getmorebritain.com website, which highlights the close proximity of Britain’s attractions and the ease at which they can be explored.
Commenting on the initiative, Jeff Mezoff, Virgin Atlantic’s vice president of marketing, said: "We wanted to take advantage of this historic opportunity and feel that there could not be a better time to launch this campaign promoting tourism to Britain."
Recent research has shown that one-third of American visits to the UK last for between one and two nights.
Virgin Atlantic Airways will also launch new flights to Puerto Rican capital San Juan on November 9th.
