Corfu, Greece £44

Recharge your batteries in Corfu before the winter months draw in. Make the most of the sunshine with picnics on sandy Glifada, isolated Pelekas or long and beautiful Lefkimmi beaches, cruise the peaceful Ionian seas on the motor-yacht Pyewacket or walk the stunning Corfu Trail, a 222km footpath that covers the whole island.

If you’ve brought the kids, bundle the whole family off to Aqualand. This fantastically fun water park is sure to appeal to grown-ups too. Porto, Portugal, £48

With a UNESCO heritage centre and a semi-Mediterranean climate, Porto is perfect for sun, sightseeing and scrumptious pastries. If you’re in to heavy metal then visit the VII Gaia Em Peso Fest at the end of October, or go in December to see arts and crafts from all over Portugal in the Fiera do Artesanato do Porto. Marrakech, Morocco £48

This decadent, and raw city is hot (or at least warm) all year round so pack your sun cream and straw hat! Barcelona, Spain £50

With sun and blue skies, Barcelona is a great pre-winter destination. You can still stroll around the Fira de Santa Llúcia festive market without a coat! Zagreb, Croatia £51

Escape to the eastern European sun of Zagreb, the lovely medieval capital of Croatia. Pack your shades and explore a tourist free city packed with history. Wander the cobbles of the Gornji grad (Upper Town) and the Donji grad (Lower Town), enjoy a picnic in Maksimir Park or by Jarun Lake, followed by an afternoon of culture in the Mimara Museum or the Museum of Contemporary Art.
