It’s getting dark out there – winter deals to book now

Summer is gone and the days are getting shorter.  Start planning now to escape the winter gloom without busting your budget.

Travelling this time of year can be busy and expensive. Inflated flight prices and heaving airports are enough to drain all of your festive spirit. Don’t get caught up in the madness – follow our advice to book a great winter get-away.

1. The cheapest day to travel in December is…

If you thought it was a good idea to fly out on Christmas Day to bag a bargain, think again. Unless you’re catching a lift from Santa’s sleigh, Skyscanner found that, despite popular belief, Christmas Day is in fact the most expensive day to travel over the festive period, with flights 24% higher than the average flight price between 16 and 31 December 2017. Surprisingly, the cheapest day to travel in the lead up to Christmas is Christmas Eve itself, with flights 19% cheaper than those on Christmas Day. If you sign up for Skyscanner’s free Price Alert emails you can monitor the price of a flight you’re interested in and book it when the price drops.

2. The quietest travel day over the holiday season is…

If you’re trying to get away from the hustle and bustle of December, the last thing you need is grumpy queues and over-sugared children at the airport. If you want to avoid the rush, don’t travel on the Saturday before the big day, as you’re likely to find a departure lounge packed with over-excited families in festive jumpers. It’s the busiest day to travel with more people leaving UK airports on this day than any other between 16 and 31 December. Instead opt for 17 December as Skyscanner has found that the quietest flights can be found on this day.
