1. Flight deals
You can find great deals to Western Australia and there’s now also a direct flight connection between London and Perth. Perth is the closest Australian gateway to the UK making it often the cheapest too. So there is a good chance of banking a real deal, especially if costs per mile are taken into account: London and Perth are 8,991 miles apart and the average flight price for a return ticket between those two hubs was £836 in 2018 – this means a cost per mile of 9.2p, quite the bargain if you compare it to other popular long-distance routes. If you’re looking for cheap domestic flights from Perth, with Qantas’ Explorer Pass and Virgin Australia’s Plus Pass, you can add multiple domestic flights into your trip for less than booking them separately. Add stops like Broome, Exmouth or Melbourne onto your trip without breaking the budget!

The i-City walking tours of Perth usually kick off at 9.45am, and they’re one of the best introductions to the city. For 90 minutes, one of the volunteers from Perth City Council will tour you round the city – choose from the Icons of Influence tour, Arts District, Convicts & Colonials or Boom & Bust tours of the city.

3. Work while you travel
One of the best ways to visit Australia, Western Australia included, is to make use of Australia’s working holiday visas. The Working Holiday visa allows you to work casually, part-time, full-time or voluntarily in Australia for up to 12 months. Check out some of Perth’s hostels, restaurants, but also wildlife conservation organisations and farms to see where you could earn some extra dollars for travel and also build up your career experiences!

Cape Peron and the Sisters in Shoalwater Marine Park are some of the most popular snorkelling sites around Perth, and it’s free to enter! If you’d like to dive here, you will need permission from the Visitor’s Centre. It’s the ideal way to cool off in Perth’s summer, and have a great day out on a smaller budget.

If you’ve picked up goodies in Fremantle Markets or the Swan Valley, take your plunder to Kings Park. 70% of the 400 hectare park is natural bushland, which means there’s plenty of birds, insects and flowers around. Lancelin is the best area to sand board in Australia. Just 25 minutes outside of Perth, you’ll find easy, soft dunes, easily accessible via 2WD or 4WD (4WD is better for getting closer to the dunes).
