More parents are booking flights with their sons and daughters to embark on a gap year, Gap Year for Grown Ups has said.
Lauren Mackay, Gap Year for Grown Ups’ brand manager, said that a number of parents are accompanying their children on their year-long trip abroad before heading off by themselves.
"We’re getting quite a few people [that] are travelling together with their traditional gap year son and daughter and then maybe doing part of their trips together and then going off independently," she said.
"People are pushing the boundaries a little bit more, [for] a lot of them either their sons or daughters have gone off to faraway places. It’s almost like: ‘If they can do it, I can do it’."
The Gap Year for Grown Ups brand has enjoyed a 300 percent growth in bookings since 2005, with the majority (61 percent) of its customers aged between 30 and 50.
Recent research from One Life Live revealed that over half (54 percent) of the population dream about travelling or volunteering in a different country.
According to a recent article by Skyscanner, working or volunteering abroad means that travellers can enjoy a longer break owing to the money they earn or the benefits of free accommodation or food.
Furthermore, working holidays offer the chance for travellers to gain local knowledge and learn something new.
