Holidaymakers travelling on cheap flights to Ibiza this summer are in for a pleasant surprise, the Spanish Tourism Office has said.
Despite having a reputation as Europe’s party capital, the Balearic Island isn’t what everyone may expect, with the destination an excellent place for walkers and lovers of Spanish cuisine.
Carmen Hernandez Gomez, a market analyst at the Spanish Tourism Office, said the increasing numbers of tourists "change their perception" shortly after their arrival in Ibiza.
"It is a destination that will surprise everyone – it surprised me – as it is not what you expect at all," she commented.
"Musts are sunsets, walks, lovely food, Ibiza Old Town and buying a white adlib [inspired by the clothes and dresses typical of the Pitiusan islands] dress."
Ibiza was one of the few airports in Europe to record positive growth in April (8.2 percent) compared to the same month in 2009, with most having been affected by the cloud of volcanic ash.
