One of the most popular spots is Jazz Mi Madre, famous for its live jazz sessions. The hotel’s on-site facilities include a library and laundry, and there are two pools: one for adults and one for children. The apartments all have kitchenettes fitted with fridges and microwaves – ideal if you want to save money on your budget break to Lanzarote by preparing your own food in the comfort of your own apartment.
Where: Costa Teguise
Rooms: From £50 a night per single room
This 442-room hotel in Costa Teguise is just 600 metres from a beautiful bay, but there’s also a complimentary shuttle service to Las Cucharas, regarded as one of Lanzarote’s best beaches. The shuttle will also take guests to the town centre, which has some of Lanzarote’s best bars and restaurants. The sprawling pool complex makes it a fantastic option for children, who’ll also love the wide range of outdoor games, including a giant version of that family favourite, Monopoly. It’s an all-inclusive property, and dining options include an à la carte restaurant and a buffet option.
Where: El Reducto Beach
Rooms: From £65 a night per single room
This is one of the best hotels in Lanzarote. The five-star Arrecife Gran Hotel & Spa has a spectacular location, overlooking the beautiful El Reducto beach. Fancy some pampering? There’s a gorgeous spa (complete with sauna, steam room and Roman thermal bath) along with a hair salon. When it’s time to let your hair down, head to the piano bar or, if the sun’s shining (and it usually is), to the poolside bar. But it’s also one of Lanzarote’s best business hotels, thanks to two meeting rooms with a capacity for up to 350 people.
Mid-range and boutique hotels in Lanzarote
Where: Playa Blanca
Rooms: From £72 a night per single room
This four-star hotel in the south of Lanzarote has been designed with children in mind – there’s a huge pool area (complete with slides and pirate ship) and there are clubs for babies, toddlers and teens. But there are plenty of activities for mum and dad too, including a mini-golf course, volleyball and five adults-only pools. There’s also the Despacio Thalasso Centre for fantastic bespoke spa treatments. There are 11 restaurants and bars (a brand new coffee shop opens in May) and options include the delicious Asian food at Sakura and fine dining at the recently-renovated El Volcán Privilege, one of Lanzarote’s best restaurants. You’ll also be close to some of the best bars in Playa Blanca. We love the Jungle Bar, known for its fantastic cocktails and live music.
Where: Papagayo Beach
Rooms: From £76 a night per single room
This beautiful boutique hotel is ideal if you’re keen to avoid the main tourist drags. If you’re searching for a hotel close to Timanfaya National Park, you’re in luck, because La Casona De Yaiza is right next door. Parts of this beautiful hotel feel more like an art gallery, with paintings by local artists and rooms filled with priceless antiques. The hotel is just 20 kilometres from the airport in the small village of Yaiza, but you’re far from isolated, because it’s only a 20-minute drive to some of Lanzarote’s most popular attractions, including Papagayo and Playa Quemada.
Where: Costa Teguise
Rooms: From £96 a night per single room
Head to Lanzarote’s best five-star hotel for fine dining, beautiful rooms, suites and private villas (the hotel was designed by Fernando Higueras, winner of the Pritzker International Architecture prize) and a fantastic beachfront location. There are five restaurants, including ones specialising in seafood, steak and local cuisine, along with a packed rosta of activities, including dance classes and cookery workshops. Adrenaline junkies will love the water sports centre, where they can learn how to windsurf, kitesurf and dive. If you can drag yourself away from this wonderful resort, nearby attractions include the Guatiza cactus garden, Timanfaya National Park and Cueva de los Verdes – a beautiful cave and lava tube.
Where: Las Cucharas
Rooms: From £98 a night per double room
The adults-only, four-star seafront hotel has a sleek, contemporary design and two gorgeous infinity pools. When it’s time to relax, head to the spa, sauna or steam baths, although there’s also a gym if you fancy burning off all those poolside cosmopolitans. The best bit? The rooms have hot tubs on the balconies. The hotel can be found in the south-east of the island and the nearest beach is Las Cucharas. It’s protected by reefs so the water’s usually calm but on windier days it’s still a magnet for windsurfers.
