Best Western Premier 61 Paris Nation Hotel

Step inside this 12th Arondissement hotel and you'll find statement pieces of furniture in rainbow hues, staff who know this part of Paris like the back of their hand and rooms which contain all the essentials for a short stay in the city of love. The owners deliberately went for a 1960s feel, so expect lots of veneer and colour blocking. Nestled on Paris's 61 rue de la Voute, the hotel makes a wonderful base, especially if you're a fan of the theatre - the Opéra Bastille and the Théâtre de la Cartoucherie are just metres away, but if you're heading further afield, the nearby station serves both the underground and RER network of trains.

Hotel Odeon Saint-Germain

This stunning hotel dates back to the sixteenth century, and the exposed beams and rough stone walls leave little doubt that this is a hotel with history. But it's also incredibly luxurious, with vast expanses of velvet and L'Occitane toiletries in the bathrooms. It's a hotel filled with character - there's an honesty bar and in the public areas, antique chests double as tables. The Saint Germain des Pres neighbourhood in which it's located is popular with arty types and intellectuals, and its winding streets are crammed with bookstores, galleries and design shops.

Le Dokhan’s

Paris's first champagne bar opened at this historic, 41-room hotel, so what better way to toast France's breathtaking capital? It's a hotel which feels intrinsically French, thanks to greenery-filled window boxes, black-and-white canopies above the entrance and decadent rooms we reckon Marie Antoinette would have loved. The majority of rooms offer jaw-dropping views over the city, and many have balconies.

There are 22 rooms inside this 1870s building, and each one has been individually designed. You'll find bespoke wallpaper and antique furniture, alongside modern amenities like coffee machines. Our favourites are the deluxe rooms, which have spa baths and views over the Panthéon.

Holiday Inn Paris Notre Dame

This must rank as one of our favourite Holiday Inns - it's right next to the Notre-Dame Cathedral, but the Louvre, Musée d'Orsay, Pompidou Centre and the colourful Jardin du Luxembourg are also within walking distance. It's also one of Paris's best family hotels - kids stay and eat for free, and there's a board games corner in reception. The rooftop terrace is a fantastic spot for a sundowner, and you'll also enjoy many perks associated with more expensive hotels, such as pillow menus and 24-hour room service.

Hotel Indigo Paris Opera

It's hardly surprising that this hotel has so many repeat guests - it feels like a home-from-home, thanks to bookshelves heaving with well-thumbed tomes and staff who go out of their way to tend to your every wish. It's anther hotel popular with arty types, because some of Paris's best theatres are close by, as is the nearest metro station (Opéra/Auber). There are 57 rooms at this boutique hotel, but if you're in need of more room there are 12 suites and duplex apartments on offer, too.

Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg

Perhaps unsurprisingly, hotels near the Eiffel Tower are hard to find, but opt for this hotel and you'll be within walking distance of the famous landmark, so if you're feeling flush, this beautiful hotel is certainly worthy of your hard-earned Euros. It's made from two connected mansions, so there's plenty of space inside this luxurious property, and nearby attractions include the Tuileries gardens, the Louvre, the Champs-Elysées and the Musée d'Orsay. World renowned designer Didier Gomez is responsible for the decor, and our favourite bit is the palm tree-filled courtyard. Yes, a palm tree-filled courtyard in the middle of Paris.

Ritz Paris

The Ritz Paris recently flung open its doors after a multi-million pound renovation, and the results are spectacular. There's a bespoke, golden circular lift to whisk guests to their rooms, and the palatial lobby area feels even more spacious, thanks to the addition of more windows, making the most of the views onto the Place Vendome. The Ritz Paris is about as far away from minimalism as it's possible to get - stay the night and you'll find rooms stuffed with antiques, golden chandeliers hanging from the toilets and bathrooms fitted with swan-shaped taps.
