Large numbers of people have booked flights to Corfu, Malaga, Palma and Ibiza from Robin Hood Airport over the forthcoming bank holiday weekend.
With the British summer having failed to live up to expectations, Doncaster Sheffield Airport has also said that many people have booked city breaks to Barcelona, Belfast and Gdansk.
Airport director Mike Morton said that the August bank holiday is "one of the busiest periods of the year" at airports generally and that he was expecting to see passenger numbers "swell".
"Whilst the recession and the poor weather are doing their best to dampen spirits, it appears that the chance to jet off somewhere warm or get away for an exciting city break is still important to the region’s passengers," he commented.
The Spanish destination of Alicante is also expected to be a popular late summer holiday destination for passengers flying from South Yorkshire.
It was announced earlier this month that Flybe had decided to continue flights to Jersey from Robin Hood Airport over the winter.
