Heathrow Terminal 5 welcomes giant suitcase

A giant suitcase has been installed in Heathrow Terminal 5’s departures area in celebration of the 2010 Heathrow Travel Product Award.

Over the course of October the suitcase, which is the same size as the bell inside Big Ben, will accommodate 2010’s 12 winning travel products including an Apple MacBook Pro, a Harrods Paddington Bear and a pair of Ray-Ban Black Suspended Lens sunglasses.

Almost three metres tall and two metres wide, the suitcase has the potential to hold 83,000 UK passports, 21,000 pairs of underwear and 10,000 bottles of suncream.

Brian Woodhead, Heathrow’s retail concessions director, said the reason behind the Travel Product awards is to highlight how many brands and products are available at the UK’s largest airport.

"It’s great to see what our passengers really value when they travel – and the luxuries and essentials they just can’t live without," he commented.

On September 24th, clothing outlet Hackett opened its doors in Heathrow’s Terminal 4, with the first customers being treated to a complementary glass of champagne.
