Hawaiian Airlines has become the most punctual airline in the US for the fifth year in a row, according to US department of transportation’s Air Travel Consumer Report.
Some 90 percent of the carrier’s flights arrived on schedule during 2008, which placed it 0.5 percentage points ahead of its nearest rival, US Airways, and 14 percentage points ahead of the industry average.
Commenting on the report, a Hawaiian Airlines statement said: "Hawaiian was barely edged out of the top spot for fewest misplaced bags, breaking a streak of three years in which Hawaiian was the nation’s best at delivering bags to its customers."
The airline came second in terms of delivering bags to flight passengers, with an average of 2.97 mishandled baggage reports for every 1,000 customers.
Hawaiian, which is the largest airline operating inter-island flights in Hawaii, is also the largest operator of flights between the islands and western US.
The carrier is due to launch a new flight to Las Vegas from Honolulu on February 23rd.
