More people are booking their holidays at the last minute, figures from a leading travel insurance company have revealed.
InsureandGo has said it has seen a "dramatic increase" in the number of holidaymakers booking insurance policies in the days leading up to their trip.
This is because more people are booking bargain trips offered by holiday companies looking to increase their share of the market in the struggling economy, the insurance company believes.
Founder of InsureandGo Perry Wilson said that more travellers were "buying their insurance at the last minute" this winter than in previous years.
"We think this is a good indicator that people are booking last-minute holidays, probably due to the competition on the high street and from online tour operators," he said.
InsureandGo have estimated that around 796,000 policies were sold in January by British travel insurance companies to holidaymakers travelling within three days of buying their insurance.
Travel insurer LV= yesterday (February 24th) revealed that a fifth of British holidaymakers have been targeted by travel cons over the last five years.
