GDS giants seek FlightStats integration

Flight performance history statistics could soon appear on global distribution system flight bookings at the point of sale.

Flight performance history statistics could soon appear on global distribution system (GDS) flight bookings at the point of sale.

Business Travel News Online (BTNOnline) claimed that leading GDS providers such as Sabre and Travelport would soon be integrating data from FlightStats into their booking systems.

According to the site, Sabre has confirmed that it will be making FlightStats data available to online travel agents, travel management companies and corporations through all available channels.

Meanwhile Travelport was said to have indicated a will to incorporate the web-based flight performance data onto its Galileo and Worldspan GDS providers in the near future – and Amadeus was also claimed to be in discussions on the matter.

FlightStats vice president of business development Meara McLaughlin was reported as saying: "We’re already monitoring the itinerary in real time, but that itinerary that was monitored becomes a matter of record. This will allow you to see what happened last month, for example, on flights you flew. This means buyers can come to the negotiations with third-party validated service parameters. It creates a much more level playing field."

FlightStats has already distributed its services through agency channels in the past, but the involvement of Sabre, Travelport and others will see the statistics combined with the booking capacities of GDS providers.
