Flights to the Isle of Man to be launched by easyJet

Cheap flights carrier easyJet will introduce flights to the Isle of Man from Liverpool John Lennon Airport this summer.

The route, which will operate six times a week using Airbus A319 aircraft, will commence on May 21st as part of the airline’s summer schedule.

Flights are being targeted at leisure as well as business passengers, with the Saturday morning and Sunday evening departures expected to appeal to weekend breakers.

Isle of Man Airport director Ann Reynolds said that easyJet had been developing its plan for the island "for the last couple of months".

"Historically, the Liverpool route has been one of our busiest and strongest, with at one time over 266,000 passengers carried in a single year, but the economic downturn has hit the market hard and traffic levels have fallen dramatically in recent years," she commented.

Ms Reynolds went on to say that the route will aid the north-west aviations sector’s recovery by bringing additional passengers to Liverpool.

Last month, Aer Arann marked the first anniversary of its flights to London City Airport from the Isle of Man.
