Introducing the flight search geeks that make Skyscanner work

**1. What do you do at Skyscanner?**
I’m an Indexing Developer; I add new deals to the site such as airlines and OTAs and I also maintain the budget airline routes in the Skyscanner database.

2. What kind of flight geek are you?
I’m a planning geek; everything in my life, both work and play, is planned and organized so that I’m prepared for every type of problem. I’m also a bit of an improvement and inventor geek.

And of course, I’m a coding geek – here’s a message for anyone fluent in Regex:

import re
re.sub("(?si)z", " ", re.sub("(?si)[^abdefgiklmnorstyz]", "", """NcoHjptXzuQvaJqPzu
rCeUhxaClHpqzJgWupeheCPxkczWXhGJoUvpocdHQubVyWjpecjzHpmXuyQvzH
wfPcrXuijepHnqVdjs"""))

3. What best generally describes your travel style
My dates are normally fixed but I’m flexible on where I go. Of course, this does not mean that I am not spontaneous; I love to travel, especially when it comes to an unexpected trip out of town.

4. What’s your ideal holiday?
Water and sun are the two most important ingredients along with great companionship. I love all-inclusive beach trips (for me), or something more extreme and activity based (for my girlfriend).

5. Who’s your ideal travel companion?
My lovely girlfriend Marzena.

6. Do you fly with children?
Not yet.

7. How do you decide where you want to go?
I rely mostly on feedback from friends and family, though sometimes I search online,
or simply go to a place which I haven’t seen yet – often somewhere on the Mediterranean.

8. How do you decide when you want to go?
We have many feasts and holidays in the Polish calendar, so that’s always a good excuse to go somewhere, especially as summers are really lovely in Poland. We do try to avoid peak times for more long distance travels as we’re not fans of crowded and very hot places.

9. What annoys you most about planning holidays?
Lack of information. I like to plan to a tee so I don’t like it when I can’t find all the small details.

10. What are you doing in your job at Skyscanner to sort that?
I’m focused on the details, every airline is equally important to me and I try to include every option and possibility that might help someone fly from A to B. I cannot sleep at night knowing that there might be a little bug somewhere on the site, laughing at me and waving one of his six legs…or worse!

11. What’s your favourite thing about the Skyscanner site?
The multitude of tools which help you find the cheapest flight, like airport information pages with route and price maps, and also the fact that it’s constantly improving every month.

12. What’s your dream feature?
A site that users can tailor to their own preferences, for example colour themes, favourite airports, favourite destinations etc. Some of this will become available with the launch of MySkyscanner which is coming soon. I’d also like to see the site improved for visually impaired users and something better for mobile users.

13. Favourite websites apart from Skyscanner and why?
Wikipedia.org because it’s always up to date; Allegro.pl which is a Poland-based online auction website, great for getting bargains. SEOcentro.com because I’m interested in the SEO world as well, and CBS to watch the latest Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

14. What’s the geekiest thing about you? Your secret geek shame?
I collect 1:200 scale model aircraft. I’m currently hunting for a B787-9 with nice livery. I also have two inventions which I intend to put into production when I return to my home country, Poland.

15. Worst travel experience?
I do everything in my power to avoid such situations (I always have a backup plan), and so far, I’ve been pretty lucky!
