Introducing the flight search geeks that make Skyscanner work

**1. What do you do at Skyscanner?**
I’m an Infrastructure Support Engineer which involves supporting employees IT needs and generally keeping all the computers and network alive in the office.

2. What kind of flight geek are you?
Gadget geek. App over map any day! My most recent addition is my solar panel battery charging backpack which is awesome!

3. What best generally describes your travel style?
I know exactly where and when I’m going. Ill planning stresses me out! I like things to go like clockwork while travelling, although it doesn’t always work out like that!

4. What’s your ideal holiday?
If I’m not up some hill enjoying the view in Peebles then I’m usually relaxing in the sun in Portugal with friends or family. I have done some travelling too; Croatia has to be one of my favourite places, I went there a few years ago and it was beautiful. We rented a boat for the whole day for just £25; the guy gave us a post card of the islands in place of a map and a mobile phone to call him on return. A great day!

5. Who’s your ideal travel companion?
My Nintendo DS and my headphones. Beer can also be useful for long journeys.

6. Do you fly with children?

7. How do you decide where you want to go?
Usually it comes down to what events are happening or, if I just want to relax it tends to be Portugal for my favourite combination of sun, food and cold beer.

8. How do you decide when you want to go?
It usually comes down to some kind of event like a birthday or it comes down to when it’s cheapest.

9. What annoys you most about planning holidays?
Going with friends is always great fun but getting everyone organised can be a complete nightmare.

10. What are you doing in your job at Skyscanner to sort that?
We are developing a MySkyscanner area of the site which should make group planning much easier. Something else I’m personally working on is helping to make the site better for people with impaired vision (see Q12).

11. What’s your favourite thing about the Skyscanner site?
The fact that it’s so flexible, which is perfect for a bargain hunter like myself.

12. What’s your dream feature?
To make the site 100% accessibility friendly. I have a progressive eye condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), which can make it difficult to read computer screens. Because of this, I have my computer set to white text on black background, but this can cause all sorts of problems for websites.

There are a few other methods used by people with vision issues to interact with their computer, for example screen readers. I’m helping to assess different methods which will make Skyscanner even more accessible.

One of the Skyscanner team is kindly raising money for the charity involved with RP who are looking for a cure and offer support – please give what you can.

13. Favourite websites and why?
I do love a good spending spree on the internet which usually involves hours of going through various categories on eBay or hunting down the latest gadget or PC part on ebuyer

14. What’s the geekiest thing about you? Your secret geek shame?
I used to have a subscription to White Dwarf. Oh how I loved it.

15. Worst travel experience?
I’ve not really had any major travel disasters to be honest. Maybe I’m just a lucky traveller? The worst thing that ever happened to me was going for two hours in the wrong direction on a train in Germany. If that’s the worst travel experience I ever have, I’m not complaining!
