Regional carrier Eastern Airways will launch new flights to Liverpool John Lennon Airport from Southampton on July 6th.
The airline will operate three flights every weekday on the route, while Eastern has also announced that it will increase its number of flights to Aberdeen from Southampton to five daily.
Eastern Airways’ chief operating officer Chris Holliday said the launch of the flights is "a major milestone".
"We’re providing the fastest link from Southampton to Liverpool, which is significantly quicker than alternative road and rail journeys," he commented.
Mr Holliday added that the route will allow business passengers to spend a day in the north-west without having to stay overnight.
As well as offering a link for passengers travelling to Merseyside, the flights are expected to prove popular among people travelling to Cheshire, Lancashire and north Wales.
In addition to being a city full of cultural attractions, Liverpool is home to a number of industries such as oil, gas, petrochemical and pharmaceutical.
Liverpool John Lennon was one of Britain’s fastest growing airports until 2007.
