China Southern Airlines has announced plans to introduce new direct routes from Beijing to London.
The carrier plans to shift its current focus on domestic travel and expand its offering to Chinese and UK customers by launching flights into the capital.
Chairman of the airline Liu Shaoyong said that his company was also planning to offer customers flights from Beijing to Moscow, New York and Detroit.
It follows the opening of ten new international routes from Guangzhou last year.
Mr Shaoyong claimed that China Southern’s cargo business is also set to see major growth in the years to come.
"I expect our cargo transport volume will increase threefold in the next few years," he said.
Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi recently claimed that China was one of the safest places to visit in the world and that it was attracting more and more tourists every year.
He added that the upcoming Olympic Games would see even more foreign visitors jet into Beijing and that many will struggle to find a free hotel room.
