Holidaymakers travelling on cheap flights to Brindisi are afforded easy access to the beautiful south-eastern region of Puglia.
This is the recommendation of the Italian State Tourist Board (ISTB), which said that while the city attracts few visitors itself, many are drawn to the surrounding attractions.
ISTB spokesperson Stefania Gatta said that "whoever goes to Brindisi doesn’t stay in Brindisi, but explores all the regions south and north of Brindisi".
"Brindisi is very near the beautiful baroque town of Lecce. All the coast there, both to the south and the north of Brindisi, is very, very beautiful," she commented.
Ms Gatta went on to recommend that holidaymakers travelling to the region hire a car, which would put them within easy reach of the attractive town of Otranto.
Between January and June this year, Brindisi experienced an increase in passenger traffic of 41.7 percent. The city’s airport, Papola Casale, is served by Ryanair on flights from London Stansted.
