The last week of July is among the best times to travel on cheap flights to Lithuania thanks to Klaipeda’s hosting of the Sea Fiesta.
This is according to the country’s national tourism office, which believes the town, Lithuania’s only seaport, is an excellent place to take a holiday thanks to its white sandy beaches, pine forests and lively cafe and nightlife scene.
During its Sea Fiesta, Klaipeda holds more than 100 marine-themed events, including concerts, fairs and seamen ceremonies.
"[The Sea Fiesta is] a tradition that began in 1934 and which has gained huge popularity in recent years," explained the organisation’s director Augusta Jaudegyte.
"The most popular tourist attraction for adults and children alike is the Sea Museum with its amazing dolphinarium and fantastic aquariums filled with exotic fish."
Last year, over 70,000 people visited Klaipeda, compared to just under 67,000 in 2008. British tourists made up 2.3 percent of the figure.
