BMI, Ryanair topping UK punctuality tables

Results published by FlightOnTime.info have proved BMI, Ryanair and Eastern Airways to be market leaders in flight punctuality.

Results published by air travel data specialist FlightOnTime.info have proved BMI, Ryanair and Eastern Airways to be market leaders in flight punctuality.

Collating figures from the Civil Aviation Authority, the group’s 2007 Scheduled Airline Punctuality Results analysed airline average arrival times at several UK hubs, dividing results into Scheduled, Low Cost and individualised Key Routes results.

The Scheduled section showed BMI Regional to be the most punctual among the largest operators at UK airports for the third year running.

The carrier achieved average delay times of only 5.9 minutes over 2007, a figure matched only by Eastern Airways (6.4) and nearly half the length of average delays for the next best performers.

While low cost carriers were also included in the general Scheduled category, a separate listing of designated budget airlines put Ryanair first on punctuality, recording average delays of 12.7 minutes and allowing only 3.2 per cent of its flights to arrive more than one hour late.

The Key Routes breakdown found BMI British Midlands to be the most punctual airline flying between London and Edinburgh, London and Aberdeen, and London and Manchester.
