With new flight routes launching and some brand new hotels entering their soft opening phase, these five destinations are a bargainous choice for your 2019 travels. From tropical long-haul beauty spots to bustling cities where there’s always something going on, there’s something to suit every type of traveller.

Cancun, Mexico

The place to be on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, Cancun is famous for its miles of white sandy beaches lined with coconut palms. As well as the buzzing nightlife and acclaimed international restaurants on the strip, there are plenty of cultural attractions just down the coast. 

Take a stroll around the well-preserved Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza – one of the ‘new’ seven wonders of the world – or head under the sea at the MUSA underwater art gallery. Just off the coast of Isla Mujeres, this seriously unique attraction has three galleries of life-size sculptures that you can scuba dive or snorkel to.

✈️ Thomas Cook Airlines are expanding their service to Cancun with nine weekly direct flights from Manchester.

🛏️ The Royalton Cancun is opening in early 2019. As well as a private stretch of beach, it will have a rooftop sky bar with a swimming pool. The all-inclusive hotel will also have a kids club, and rooms equipped with their extra comfy DreamBeds.

🛏️ The Catalonia Costa Mujeres is set to open at the end of 2019. This luxury all-inclusive resort will have two buildings, separated by an avenue lined on-site shops and food stalls .

🛏️ Melia are on track to open their fifth Mexican resort, the Paradisus Playa Mujeres, in May 2019. On-site facilities will include four swimming pools, six bars, seven restaurants and a private marina.

🛏️ Now Natura Riviera Cancun is set to open in late 2019. The resort will be inspired by the Mayan jungle, with a waterfall, lazy river and grotto bar in the grounds and a spa that’s inspired by the nearby cenotes.

Las Vegas, USA

It’s always summer in fabulous Las Vegas. If you want guaranteed sunshine and plenty to keep yourself entertained, Sin City is the place to go. Not only is it great value for money in 2019, it’s also got plenty of eye-popping attractions. You can easily while away your days exploring the mega casinos, excellent cocktail bars, quirky shopping malls and the famous bright lights of the strip.

If the high stakes at the roulette table don’t get your heart pounding, adrenaline baiting attractions – like the new Fly LINQ zipline – certainly will. The excitement doesn’t stop at the city limits, either. Vegas sits right on the edge of the Mojave Desert, which you can explore on a Hummer or helicopter tour. And let’s not forget about the famous Vegas residencies: next year Lady Gaga, Aerosmith and Cher are among some of the big names performing live.

✈️ Virgin Atlantic will be adding 7 weekly flights from London Heathrow to Las Vegas to its schedule from 31st March. Replacing its current service from Gatwick, the new route is set to have more premium seating.

✈️ Virgin Atlantic is also doubling the frequency of flights from Manchester to Las Vegas, flying four times a week from summer 2019.

✈️ Budget favourite Norwegian has just launched its twice weekly service from London Gatwick to Las Vegas, which is sure to make flying in 2019 much cheaper.

Los Angeles, USA

✈️ Virgin Atlantic will fly direct from Manchester to Los Angeles three times per week, starting in summer 2019

🛏️ The Santa Monica Proper is opening in early 2019, with a rooftop pool for soaking up the rays. It’s a retrofit of a 1928 building, so packs a bit of history too.

🛏️ The boutique Thompson Hotel will be opening in June 2019. The mid-century decor will infuse the space with old Hollywood glamour, with a rooftop pool deck for watching those famous LA sunsets.

🛏️ Fairmont Century Plaza is scheduled to open in June 2019, as the reopening of the iconic Century Plaza which has hosted everyone from celebrities to presidents.

Reykjavik, Iceland

We’ve got WOW Air to thank for putting cheap flights to Reykjavik on the map. Travel bloggers and intrepid tourists have been flocking to Iceland in recent years to tackle the Golden Circle ring road, an epic drive that takes in volcanoes, geysers, glaciers and hot springs.

The island is a dream for nature lovers, with Northern Lights dancing across the heavens in the winter. In summer the sun stays out until midnight, perfect for those who like to party all night. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Brazil’s carnival city is famous for its colourful nightlifeand incredible beaches – everyone’s heard of Ipanema and Copacabana,right? With Norwegian launching new flights to Rio, and British Airways alreadytackling the route, we reckon 2019 will be the time to bag a bargain.

If you love an iconic party, aim to arrive in time for Carnival – in 2019 it will take place on the 1st to 9th March. It can be tricky to find accommodation during the party, so be sure and book your hotel as early as possible. Another famous thing to do in the city is take the cable car to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain in time to watch the city lights flicker into life at sunset. Go a couple of hours early to beat the crowds.

✈️ Norwegian is planning to fly between London Gatwick and Rio de Janeiro from next spring.

🛏️ The Sofitel will be reopening as the Fairmont Copacabana in 2019 after its renovation. The hotel is in one of the city’s most iconic beach neighbourhoods, and will have two swimming pools as well as a spa and gym.
