Amsterdam: Sin city or Civilised City?
When? Amsterdam has a mild climate, but rain is common at any time of year so bring a brolly! Summer temperatures rise to a pleasant 23C, whilst winter days can be cold and crisp, with frost not uncommon. Summer is of course the most popular time to stroll along the canals, take in the bustle of the café culture.
Stay: as to be expected in any capital city, you can choose from cheap hotels such as the Seven Bridges, a quiet guest house that is one of the city’s best value options, through to luxurious hotels like the Amstel InterContinental Amsterdam. For something in between, try Hotel de l’Europe.
Amsterdam Nightlife: it’s the forbidden pleasures of Amsterdam that many come to enjoy, and there are ample opportunities to indulge; from the famed coffee shops, to the seedy red light district to pulsating techno clubs such as Escape, The Paradiso or The Melkweg.
But there’s far more to Amsterdam than that; couples can enjoy a romantic stroll along the canal at night; live music is everywhere in the Rembrantsplein and Leidseplein areas, and Amsterdam is home to several excellent Jazz clubs.
