Leading global distribution system (GDS) specialist Amadeus has given a strong indication that easyJet and bookings systems would not be burning their bridges – despite recent spats over surcharges.
Talking to TravelMole, Amadeus UK and Ireland managing director Stephane Durand indicated that travel management companies (TMCs) would not be willing to sacrifice the benefits of having easyJet flights on the GDS.
Easyjet and TMCs have fallen out recently over surcharges that the airline has introduced for bookings made outside of its own website – including those that TMCs channel through GDS.
Mr Durand told TravelMole: "The two need each other and I think they will come to a solution because agents love having Easyjet on the GDS and Easyjet like the high yields that business travel brings."
He added that more and more low-cost airlines would be following easyJet and spreading their fares through GDSs, but would only reveal that the airlines in question were European.
And Amadeus this week revealed that it would not only be airline bookings that business and leisure travellers could access through GDS, claiming that Eurostar was finally readying its train timetables and fairs for GDS circulation.
