Alternative wedding venues around the world to suit all budgets

Budget is key when choosing any wedding venue, so imagine the bride’s surprise to find her wedding may only cost a pound!

That’s all this 8 foot tall pink AutoWed vending machine costs and includes a wedding receipt and two plastic wedding rings in an egg-shaped plastic capsule. Bargain! The novelty substitute was launched by a Cornish company to cater for even the smallest of budgets.

But while the wedding vending machine may not woo everyone, it’s an interesting addition to the ever-growing list of options to suit tastes for all weddings.

And so, armed with a one-pound coin and a platinum credit card, wedding experts Confetti sent us to compare and contrast the ultimate budget and top-end marriages on the market.

Bargain nuptials

Little White Chapel, Las Vegas

Ok, so it’s not the cheapest to get there, but once you’re in Sin City almost anything is possible and some of it doesn’t have to cost the earth. The Drive Through Tunnel of Love Special at the Little White Wedding Chapel – scene of the weddings of Britney Spears and and Demi Moore – is a bargain $129, and includes a civil ceremony, photographs, DVD and most importantly, rental of a motorbike for the drive-through ceremony itself.

New York City Hall

Perhaps most famous for the wedding of Carrie and Mr Big in Sex and the City, New York City Hall wedding fees start cost only $25. Although no reservations or appointments are accepted, licenses must be purchased at least 24 hours before the wedding takes place, so don’t turn up on a romantic whim on the last day of your trip!

Unfortunately for most people, weddings at Westminster Abbey are limited only to members of the Royal Family, Order of the Bath members and their children and those who live in the Abbey’s Precincts. However, you can still have a fairytale Westminster ‘royal wedding’ – simply head along to the registry office at Old Marylebone Town Hall where the fees start from £115.

Luxury loving

The Goring, London

Those who are still on a post-Royal wedding high may wish to book Kate and Wills favourite The Goring in Belgravia for their big day. The family-owned hotel is the very lap of luxury and provides some of London’s finest dining for up to 250 guests.

The world-famous Four Seasons has played host to the likes of Marilyn Monroe and henry Kissinger over the years and is renowned for its opulent décor. Up to 190 guests can enjoy the Cosmopolitan Suite, though smaller options are also available. While Marilyn may have sung ‘happy birthday’ to JFK at Madison Square Garden shortly after his birthday bash at the Four Seasons, it’s also famed for its spectacular weddings and offers a range of sumptuous packages. A bash for 100 people will set you back $23,500.

Vaux le Vicomte

This prestigious 17th century baroque castle is one of the most elaborate buildings in France and played host to the wedding of the daughter of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, rumoured to have cost more than $55m. The castle is available for hire and can accommodate up to 400 seated guests or 800 for cocktails, and can lay on fireworks to entertain your guests.
