Cheap flights to Paraguay

Cosmopolitan cities, verdant rainforests, and some amazing feats of engineering make Paraguay an interesting and varied destination to visit. Despite being one of the cheapest countries in the world, Paraguay is still off the beaten track for many backpackers. It’s definitely a country worth spending some time in. Go and see the ruined Jesuit settlements, the astounding Itaipu Dam, and the gorgeous Mbaracayu Biosphere Reserve; an area considered to be one of the world’s most important places for biodervisity.

Paraguay currently has two operational international airports, which serve the two largest cities. When you search for flights to Paraguay you’ll find that most flights land at either one or two of the following.

 Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU)

If you’re flying to Paraguay this is the airport you’re most likely to land at. It’s the country’s main international and national airport, and is named after a famous Paraguayan aviator. The airport is located in the city of Luque, near the capital city Asunción. Asunción itself is a beautiful colonial city with a dynamic atmosphere, where over 65% of the population are aged below 30. Plenty of buzzing nightclubs, glitzy shopping malls, and a wide range of international restaurants add to the lively ambience and provide plenty of distractions. Although the city is a sprawling mass of suburbs, the historic core can be explored in an afternoon on foot.

Guarani International Airport (AGT)

The second international airport in Paraguay serves the chaotic and bustling Ciudad del Este, and its surrounding area. At the moment the airport handles more cargo than passengers, although the airport’s administrator believes that numbers will increase as air travel becomes a more important part of Paraguayan culture. The city itself sits on the border of both Brazil and Argentina, and is a popular shopping destination due to the great prices of electronics and other luxury goods. This city is also the gateway to the world famous Itaipu Dam and the Iguazu falls.

From both cities you can get public transport transfers to other regions in Paraguay, and from Ciudad del Este you can quickly hop into Argentina or Brazil (as long as you have the correct documentation).
