Hoi An is my favorite city in Vietnam. It’s intense French influence is clear in the city’s old architecture and design. The narrow streets are brimming with shops and life. Locals go about their daily tasks and small shop owners sit on the steps outside their shops as they work as colorful lanterns light the streets. This charming city is unlike anywhere else I have seen in Vietnam.
Now that is UNESCO Heritage and you have to pay a ticket to enter old town and see most of the historic buildings (although the control is very loose), it feels less authentic than when I visited in 2007. It's still an enchanting place, the highlight of many traveling in Vietnam. Explore the surrounding, they are like Ubud before the digital nomads invasion.
Old town Hoi An is very charming place to visit, has its own character and unique feeling to it that takes you back to the past. I enjoyed walking around especially at night, all lit up with colorful lanterns.
